Production Specialist – Lighting Operator

The Clyde Theater is looking for a lighting engineer/operator that will serve as onsite production support, responsible for the lighting design, programming, and operation for live events ranging from ballroom style meetings to concerts and other special events. The successful candidate will have a diverse background as a live production engineer demonstrating deep systems knowledge, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to remain calm, focused, and troubleshoot in a fast-paced production environment. The ideal candidate will have an impeccable focus and drive to constantly improve the customer experience.

This is a part time position that will require working a varied schedule including evenings and weekends. Potential for full time for a candidate with the right skill sets.

Responsibilities Include

  • Promptly, thoroughly, and professionally communicate with team, customers, and business partners in order to ensure successful execution of events
  • Translate CAD lighting designs into plots and contribute in the execution of the design
  • Contribute as a subject matter expert in the field of event/entertainment lighting design
  • Design, program and operate live events with autonomy, taking the artist/customers’ ideas and delivering an outstanding product
  • Understanding and execution of rigging, load calculations and chain hoist operation
  • Ensure industry best practices are followed with a safety-first mindset
  • Proactively engage with production team to pursue process improvements and search out opportunities to help others improve skillsets and knowledge base
  • Assist Production Manager with leading a team


  • Event setup and technical coordination of assigned systems
  • Recommend technical resource scheduling for equipment and labor script
  • Thorough testing of equipment ahead of event
  • Deliver clear communications to all team members

Event Execution

  • L1 technical services for assigned events
  • Optimizing systems for the best quality attainable
  • Technical leadership of the lighting and lighting teams
  • Dynamically flex to client needs and changes


  • Assist with strike of event space(s), ensuring correct equipment handling and storage
  • Participate in post-event feedback discussions/surveys

Basic Qualifications

  • Positive, team oriented with a “can-do” attitude, willing to jump in anywhere as needed to support the team and the needs of our customers
  • Strong understanding of live event processes
  • Experience in event AV, especially in lighting and control systems
  • Familiarity with Avolights, GrandMA and Chamsys Consoles
  • Proficiency with lighting, truss builds and staging systems
  • Focused, organized and effective in stressful environments
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite/AutoCAD/Vector Works
  • Adaptive and flexible
  • Ability to work across multiple teams and cultures
  • Resourceful and quick to take initiative
  • Able to prioritize while multi-tasking under pressure and within short time constraints
  • Self-directed and able to manage tasks individually, but also interface well with customers and team members
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to occasionally adjust work schedule to business needs
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and move quickly between locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 - 4 year degree in A/V, technical theatre or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to busk live music events
  • Art-net/sACN Knowledge
  • Ability to troubleshoot/repair lighting fixtures
  • Power Distribution systems and calculating power loads and needs
  • Ability to call followspots
  • Extensive Rigging experience, ETCP Certification
