98.9 The Bear’s Growl-O-Ween: Static-X and Sevendust with Special Guests: Dope and Lines of Loyalty

American metal crew Static-X emerged at the tail end of the ’90s, pushing an aggressive thrash-metal blend with industrial overtones and a techno pulse. Their breakthrough debut, 1998’s cult classic Wisconsin Death Trip, rocketed them to stardom in the heavy metal music world, their image boosted by front man Wayne Static’s distinctive hair and vocal delivery. After Static’s untimely passing, the original lineup has made a comeback with the help of previously recorded Static vocals, issuing Project Regeneration in 2020. Vol. 2 is scheduled to release later this year.

Joining them on tour this year is the Atlanta-based quintet Sevendust, another prominent metal act from the 90s. Sevendust distinguishes themselves from contemporaries from the nu-metal era with an aggressive blend of bottom-heavy riffs and soulful, accessible melodies delivered by vocalist Lajon Witherspoon. Over the years, the band balanced the raw energy and brutality of early albums with increasingly atmospheric productions and even late-era acoustic sets. They continue to be a dominant presence on the U.S. rock charts.
